Rising Stars of Africa is already a successful youth football/soccer program based in Ghana and founded by James Dzandza. RSA’s academy has sent players internationally while also running mass participation programs locally.
In March 2024, Charlie Cooper, a college student from New York, volunteered with RSA, spending his days running informal basketball clinics at a court in Teshie. Inspired by the children’s love for basketball and the lack of youth development opportunities in the area, Charlie approached James with the idea to create a more concrete basketball and leadership program for the youth of Teshie.
James was eager and brought in Iddris Ayambire, a former leader of FIBA W. Africa. Iddris grew up in Teshie and discovered his passion for basketball on the very courts in the community that our program is impacting today.
Through James’ knowledge for sports business, Iddris’ passion for coaching and giving back to his community, and Charlie’s inspiration, RSA basketball is excited to have launched its program in March 2025.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is rooted in building a brighter future for the youth of Ghana. Sports are an incredible tool for social change and leadership development. Basketball is a growing sport in Ghana and the world as a whole, and can be used to teach many amazing lessons of teamwork and cooperation. Not only does basketball teach life lessons, but it can serve as an outlet of freedom and expression for the youth of Ghana. Finding a passion in life is important for every child and making basketball a more accessible option for our youth can change the lives of many. For each child, being apart of something bigger than yourself is unique to sport and can provide a lifetime of meaning. Within our basketball training program, we provide opportunities for all skill levels to explore the game of basketball, ensuring each and every child can enjoy the sport at their own pace. Outside of basketball, we pair training with leadership building seminars each week which ensures our players grow into well rounded leaders prepared to take on the world - whether it be in basketball or anything else!
