New Mini-Hoop!

June 10, 2025

As we’ve made it through about 2 months of mass participation clinics, we are noticing something great: we are getting some really young players at our clinics! It is never too early to start learning the basics of basketball and it is important for young kids to start with smaller balls and hoops so they have the right form as they grow up! This new adjustable 6-8 foot hoop will change the game for these youngsters - as long as the older guys make sure not to dunk on it and break it!

Public Speaking Workshop

June 8, 2025

Led by some of our international volunteers from USA, this was maybe our best character development session to date. In Ghana, children tend to be quite soft spoken. It is very important that the youth can still speak up for themselves and be confident speakers as they grow up. The session started with some important tips on public speaking. These included making eye contact, speaking with confidence and preparing when you know you will be speaking. We separated all 40 kids breaking into randomized pairs, with each pair asking simple questions like what their favorite food is or what their favorite activity may be. We then reconvened as a group and each pair had to stand in front of the class and tell us about their partner! Many kids were very shy at first but with some confidence and cheering from their friends, every single child was able to stand in front of the room and speak about their partner. Our youngest participant was 5 years old and she killed it! The session was a really great way to build their confidence while also having the kids meet new friends. To round out the session, we played a rock paper scissors tournament where Jeff took home the win!

RSA U18 first game vs Reformers

June 7, 2025

After months of hard work and practice, our U18 elite team was prepared for their first match. We were visited by Reformers Academy from downtown Accra. The day started with some rain, but everyone joined together to clear the puddles using some leaves! Finally, the game tipped off and it was a great start for our squad. We led 28-26 at halftime and held that lead all the way util the final 8 seconds, when an opposing hit a three pointer to take a 44-42 lead. It was a tough way to lose but it was a very competetive game and successful first outing for our players! For many of them, it was their first organized basketball game ever! Our squad was led by Christian Nimako (10 pts) and Theophilus Teye (9 pts, 4 ast, 3 stl) as they contributed on both defense and offense! Onto the next!

Recycling Workshop

June 1, 2025

Led by one of our volunteers from the USA, this session highlighted the importance of the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. In Ghana, pollution and waste are a big issue, and culturally, recycling is not very common. This was a great lesson, highlighting the different ways we can be less wasteful each day! The kids were given a sheet with different daily items on it, and after learning the topic, had to decide whether they should reduce, reuse or recycle that product. Marvin won that contest, scoring 30/30 correct - he’s a future recycling star!

Day 1 at Future Graduates School P.E. Sessions

May 30, 2025

Along with our clinics, school PE sessions allow us to spread basketball to even more kids in the local area! At Future Graduates School, we were gifted a portion of their PE time for around 50 students who had never tried basketball before! Even though it was 8 am, the kids were jumping around, very excited to try the new sport. The day started with some fun stretching and dribbling drills, before working on our passing. Some of the kids from this session even joined our after-school clinic that very day! We will be back at this school over the semester and some other schools starting next semester!

Desmond Mic’d up at Practice!

May 19, 2025

Pretty self explanatory - we put a microphone on one of our more charismatic young hoopers, Desmond, as he went through the clinic! What a helpful and enthusiastic kid!

RSA Basketball Launch Day

April 13, 2025

Where it all began. On a sunny Teshie day, we celebrated the launch of our program - specifically our U16 squad! They engaged in scrimmages with two local academies and everyone enjoyed other fun festivities. We were even joined by some local artists and the VP of the Ghana Basketball Association, Alex Kukula! It was a great day under the sun with laughter, celebration and joy. It was a tremendous way to kickstart our program and build excitement around the team.
